The Board of Directors of City of Promise is pleased to announce that Price A. Thomas has been named the organization’s new Executive Director

May 3, 2023

Born and raised in Charlottesville, Price Thomas brings extensive experience as a communications expert and campaign strategist in addition to his deep knowledge of the Charlottesville community.  His nonprofit leadership experience with both the Montpelier Foundation and United Way combined with his dedication to young people, made him the ideal choice to follow in the impactful footsteps of departing Executive Director, Mary Coleman.

Price noted, “I'm humbled and thrilled to have the opportunity to build on the strong existing foundation at City of Promise and continue the work that Mary and the staff are doing. I owe a debt of gratitude to the leadership of the United Way and I'm looking forward to applying what I've learned to growing the scope and impact of City of Promise. I was raised here, I'm raising my kids here, and I'm excited for the opportunity to have a positive impact on the place I call home."

“The City of Promise board is thrilled to welcome Price Thomas as its next Executive Director,” said Bill Shenkir, President of the City of Promise Board of Directors. “Price has long ties to Charlottesville having grown up here, attended the local schools, and served in so many important roles throughout the community. He is passionate about serving the families and children in the current and expanding City of Promise footprint in the City.  He brings exceptional leadership skills and marketing experience to us, and I personally look forward to working with him.”

City of Promise is in the enviable position of having Price and Coleman transition together through June 30 prior to her departure. Coleman has served successfully as City of Promise’s Executive Director since 2019. City of Promise partnered with DriWaterstone, a nationally recognized executive search and recruiting firm, to conduct the search.
